I emailed Bill Logan over at http://www.canoe-suwannee.com/cedar_strip_canoe.htm about a good place to buy cedar for my project. He put me in touch with a small mill outside of Tallahassee. There I picked up 50 board feet of relatively clear (only small knots) Atlantic white cedar and some cherry for the outer stems. The great thing about the cedar is that they were 17 ft in length so no scarfing of strips was necessary. To get them back to Gainesville, I fabricated my own roof rack for my truck (sorry, I sold the truck and don't have any pictures of my handiwork).
